At Helios Psychology we provide psychological assessments in the following areas.
- Intellectual ability (giftedness or impairment)
- Developmental assessments
- Behaviour assessments
Both verbal and non-verbal assessments of intellectual ability are available. Non-verbal assessments are used when a child has limited expressive language or english as a second language. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fourth Edition (WISC-IV) is used to assess the general thinking and reasoning skills of children aged 6 years to 16 years. The Leiter International Performance Scale - Third Edition (Leiter-3, supersedes the Leiter-R) is a non-verbal test that evaluates cognitive, attentional and neuropsychological abilities in typical and atypical children, adolescents and adults. The Leiter is used for a range of reasons including as part of the application to Language Development Centres (Kindergartens).
The Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales, Second Edition (Vine-land-II) is a measure of adaptive behaviour from birth to adulthood, Woodcock Johnson Scales of Independent Behaviour - Revised (SIB-R) provides a comprehensive assessment of adaptive and maladaptive behaviour.
The Assessment Process
The assessment process usually involves an initial consultation (to obtain background information); the assessment session (which may be run over 2 meetings), and a follow up session to discuss the results of the assessment. You will be provided with a detailed, written report outlining the findings of the assessment and recommendations.
