Educational Learning Assessment
An Educational-Learning assessment assists with evaluating an individual’s academic skills and knowledge across various domains, including reading, writing, and mathematics. It can help highlight strengths and challenges across different areas of academic functioning and assist in diagnosing Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dysgraphia.
If individuals experience significant difficulty in performing at the expected academic level and don’t receive appropriate accommodations and support needed, they may struggle with significant psychological stress.

This assessment provides clarity on why certain educational and/or learning tasks feel harder than they should. For children, the results provide parents and teachers with targeted strategies to support the child’s learning and help them reach their potential. For adults, the results provide a clearer understanding of how they think, learn, and navigate daily life.

Educational Learning Assessment Process: What to Expect
Our comprehensive in-person educational learning assessment uses a multimodal and evidence-based approach:
1.Once you are booked in for an intake session, we will send you a list of required documents to submit at least 48 hours prior to your first appointment. Required documents may include school reports and medical records for your psychologist to review.
2.The intake session is 1-hour consultation during which your psychologist will gather detailed information about your background and concerns to determine the exact assessment components required.
For clients aged 15 and under, this session is for parents or guardians only. Please do not bring the child to this session.
For clients aged 15-17, it is recommended that the client attend with their parent(s) or guardian.
Clients aged 18 and over are welcome to attend alone or bring a support person.
3.The Educational learning assessment session is approximately 6 hours split into two sessions of 3 hours each, generally 1-2 weeks apart. In addition, the client will have appropriate breaks to ensure they remain engaged and comfortable.
4.The feedback session is a 1-hour appointment where your psychologist will walk you through the Educational Learning assessment results in detail. If any required diagnostic criteria are met, the formal diagnosis will be made at this stage. You will also be provided with appropriate recommendations and adjustments for moving forward.
Helios Educational Learning Assessment Fees
The exact fee depends on the individual. The psychologist will provide you with a final and accurate estimate of the total cost at your intake session.
Deposit and Cancellation Policy
Approximately two weeks before your appointment, we will send a reminder email followed by text messages to confirm your appointment and pay your deposit. This is intended to give you ample opportunity to reschedule if needed.
A deposit of $240 is required two weeks before your intake session. This will be applied toward the total cost of the session and deducted from the balance due on the day.
We appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Please be aware of the following cancellation fees:
- Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the appointment will incur a fee 50% of the appointment cost.
- Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment will incur a fee 100% of the appointment cost.
- Failure to attend without notice will also incur a fee 100% of the appointment cost.

Rebates
Medicare rebates are not available for Educational Learning assessment sessions. Private health insurers typically do not cover the cost of psychological assessments either. We recommend checking directly with your insurer if you are unsure.
